Simultaneous interpretation
- Usually provided at seminars, conferences and other VIP events
- The interpreter is required to provide an ongoing translation into the headphones of the audience while the presenter is speaking
- The interpreter may stand next to the speaker, or in a specially equipped booth.
- Simultaneous translation is traditionally performed by two interpreters working in 20-30 minutes shifts. In some cases professionals prefer to work longer shifts to ensure a constant and uniform style of interpretation.
Consecutive translation
- Provided for business talks or for presentations and in support of VIPs
- A single interpreter translates a speech sequentially, dividing it into logical parts or sentences.
